Hi, and thanks for your message! There are several ways you can go about looking for contractors that can install solar panels in your local area. Depending on where you live, this may require some creativity and asking around in your neighborhood!

First, it is always a good idea to check online to see if there are any contractors you may be able to find in your area. For example I did a quick search and found two sites that have listings for solar contractors in Tennessee. I don't know how current these are or how reliable, but it is a start.

There are also some online services that provide listings to local contractors. We use the service at Cooler Planet here:

If you are not able to find an installer there, a few other service you can try include:

It is also a good idea to ask around in your local area. Some larger hardware or home improvement stores may know of contractors who may do solar installation.

In terms of finding solar grants, our Solar Energy Grants section can be helpful for you and it has several resources to help you locate grants for your area.

If you are not able to finance an entire solar system right away, there are many ways you can affordably get started such as:

  • Adding one new solar panel to your home every year. The savings will add up!

  • If you're not able to go to a whole home solar power system right away, start with smaller solar systems such as a solar hot water heater, a solar attic fan, or by using portable solar devices.

  • If you or someone in your home is handy, you could try to build your own solar panel which is a fun project, especially if you have kids who might be interested and want to help!

I wish you much success in finding what you need to convert your home to solar. Please feel free to comment on this page if you'd like to keep us updated!
